Solo: A Magnificent Residential Apartment Design

Advocating Cleanliness, Transparency, and Modern Aesthetics

Advocating the concepts of clean, transparency, and magnificence, the Solo residential apartment design by Hsuan-Ta Chiu incorporates contemporary and Bali styles to create a vital, relaxing, and modern aesthetic. The uniqueness of this design lies in its incorporation of clear grey glass, which elegantly combines independence and visual transparency, expanding the visual perception in the given long and narrow layout.

The Solo residential apartment design, spanning 298 square meters, features a long and narrow floor plan that is symmetrically divided into 13 areas based on a central space. These areas encompass the public space, dining room, kitchen, and master and second bedrooms. A standout feature of the design is the placement of a piano in the central public space, catering to the house owner's love for music.

The foyer of the Solo design acts as an intermediate space, connecting the contemporary-style public area with the exotic Bali-style master bedroom. This specialty of the design allows for seamless transitions between different areas of the apartment.

The white piano, prominently displayed in the central public space, serves as a captivating focal point that delineates the living room and dining room in a boundless living environment. The extensive use of white throughout the public space, especially in the piano area, creates a visually appealing contrast with the ceiling edges.

The Solo residential apartment design, completed on October 1, 2018, is located in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The design incorporates meticulous research, with arrangements of furniture and stereoscopic wood walls subtly signifying space rhythms. The TV wall, adorned with exclusive paints and lines, enhances the visual experience and creates a square impression. The bar counter, adjacent to the dining room, adds a laid-back aura to the overall design.

One of the design's challenges was incorporating natural wooden veneers and artistic iron grilles in the master bedroom, while maintaining the primitive charisma exposed by the concrete ceiling. The soft trim design and strategic placement of plants successfully develop the exotic charms reminiscent of a villa in Bali.

The Solo residential apartment design, captured beautifully by photographer Chung His Chiu, was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
